About Us

About us

The new team at Princess Alexandra is working hard to bring the original values of the pub back to the community.  A great social space for meeting, whether it's for a coffee, a couple of drinks, lunch, dinner, a night out or a social event we want the local community to feel like they have the perfect place to go.

Following an extensive refurbishment we now offer great outside spaces that can be used year round thanks to our covered, heated pergolas, and our decked terrace on Palace Road catches the last rays of sun every day.  We are also the only pub in Crouch End with Sky Sports and BT Sport so you can enjoy Premier League Football, Aviva Premiership Rugby and other major events on our HD TVs or our HD projector screen.  If you're not a sports fan there is plenty of space to escape the screens and chill out with friends and family, enjoying a drink or food to go with your conversation.  We welcome children until 8pm.

Our kitchen team use the best ingredients from high quality suppliers to produce fresh, delicious, seasonal dishes including moreish snacks and sharers, tempting main dishes, delectable desserts and our exceptional Sunday Roasts which cater to all dietary requirements and we serve kids portions too.

Dogs are welcomed with water bowls and treats available at the bar.

Our Menus

Delicious, fresh, seasonal.  All our food is prepared on site by our team, headed up by our Head Chef, Jack.  We work with high quality suppliers including local businesses such as Dunns Baker and Confectioner to produce great quality dishes that taste, look and smell fantastic.  We also believe it is important to deliver fantastic food for vegetarian and vegan customers, not just our regular dishes without the meat.

Our Team

We believe that people come to pubs for more than the products, and the service is what differentiates one pub from another.  At the heart of this is our team, who are encouraged to deliver first class service to everyone who walks through the door

OWNER - NICK FORD

Princess Alexandra is Nick's first pub venture and the realisation of a dream.  Starting work in his local pub in Harston, Cambs at the age of 15 washing pots Nick quickly developed to assist the chef's in preparing service.  He worked in cafes, restaurants and pubs throughout his studies and to support himself through his Physiology degree at Leeds University.  After university he travelled and worked in South East Asia and Australia including Front of House at Forty One @ Level 41, one of the finest restaurants in Sydney.  When he returned to the UK Nick landed a role as Head of Food & Beverage at Queens' College, Cambridge University including managing the student bar which he developed into one of the most popular university bars with students and locals alike.  Nick then moved to IHG, the world's biggest hotel group.  During his 8 years he worked roles in both their corporate head office supporting the UK Food & Beverage operational teams of 65 hotels later moving to their flagship managed Crowne Plaza in Kensington.  He then moved to Antic London, operator of 50 London pubs and venues , firstly as Operations Manager overseeing 10 pubs then as Head of Food for the entire operation.  Having lived in the area for 8 years Nick was delighted to see "The Alex" become available, a pub with bags of potential to turn around and bring back to it's former position in the community.  A place that could offer something for everyone.  Great drinks, fantastic pub food, a place you'd go to watch sport...but that's not all you'd go for.  Nick is passionate about sports, all sports, but particularly rugby which he played from the age of 5, though admits his playing days as a "persistent" scrum half are now behind him.  He also loves wine, describing his taste as wide ranging he confesses to favouring New World reds, he is WTES qualified and chooses the wine list based on his knowledge and experience, another dream come true.

GENERAL MANAGER - MARIE STRITTER

Marie joins us from Antic London having run both Earl Haig Hall in Crouch End and, more recently, The White Hart in Stoke Newington.  Marie is a true publican, she has worked in pubs in London and her native Enfield over the years and believes that pubs should be at the heart of their local communities.  Marie has a passion for football and is an avid Spurs supporter having been taken to games by her Dad since she was young.

HEAD CHEF - JACK STONE

Jack came to us from Antic, though he had spent some time out of London before joining us, his previous London experience at Forest Tavern in Forest Gate, East London, had showed his huge potential.  Before moving to pubs Jack worked in Corrigan's Mayfair, home of acclaimed Irish celebrity chef and Great British Menu heats judge Richard Corrigan.  Jack says his proudest moment was cooking for and meeting Queen Elizabeth II at 0 St Mary Axe, more commonly known as The Gherkin.
